Red Beret Poetry Style, Kamppi Metro Helsinki

Hi again! After looong break I saw something that was a must to draw. I saw this youngish fellow in metro of Helsinki. I was totally in my thoughts when something red made me focus the gaze. It was this man that had red beret combined with slightly darker red ruffle under his face. The rest was all black. Dark curly hair poked out from under the beret. Is this poetry in motion, or what?

On the Street, Beanie Time, Lauttasaari Helsinki.

The weather is getting colder around here in Helsinki. Time to grap favourite beanie to head and warmer jacket. This girl walked in front of me in her cosy slightly oversized white jeans and pilot jacket. I'm happy that nowadays there is alternatives to slim jeans in shops.

On the Street. Me on Blue, Autumn Basic, Helsinki

This year I skipped all October drawing challenges, inktober etc. Because I have finally decided to invest time to learn how to draw with iPad and Procreate. This is the first try. My most common street style in Autumn. This outfit protects against small rains and have big pockets to carry all essentials. And if I’d like to head to the woods, I just switch to rubber boots and beanie, change this bag to mushroom basket and I am ready to dive in to mushroom hunting in woods. That is the best thing to do in weekends.

Procreate is definitely a new learning  process. In drawing manner I have been a very analog paper and pen person… or ink or paint. But here we go, starting a new era as a dinosaur of drawing.

Ps. This cap is the same one I have made a post in 2012, Costo hats with pompoms. Still in good use. Sustainable hats that last time. https://flashforzonzon.blogspot.com/2012/08/finnhits-costo-hats-with-pompoms.html

On the Street. Summer in Boots, Hietalahti Helsinki

Street Style Helsinki, summer in boots.

The Summer has been exceptionally hot in Helsinki this year. That kind of hot, that Finns have been looking for when traveling abroad during the summer holidays, while usually there is no guarantee of warm sunshine in Finland. But this time the hot sun has arrived in Finland (thanks to climate change, I guess). There has been a real need of summer clothes this year. The lighter the materials, the better.

Therefor, this young fellow caught my eye, when in these days the common footwear has been sandals. This guy doesn’t make compromises in his footwear. Boots it must be, whether it is summer or not. One can cut the stems off, but boots it must be. Style is not compromised.

Today is probably the last warm summer day in Helsinki. So, enjoy it to the fullest!

On the Street. Lovely Floral Skirt, Hietalahti Helsinki

Street style Helsinki, woman in floral skirt

As soon as I saw this older lady from the car window I was like ooh, what a lovely summer floral skirt she has! And a feminine jeans jacket and a bright colored summerhat. What a summerly feeling.

On the Street. Beret Man in a Hurry, Kamppi, Helsinki.

One more man wearing beret for the cold spring before these street style illustrations start to reflect summer. Sometimes I get these looks from people I stare firmly. If they are in a hurry, I have no change to tell that I like the outfit. If I have the chance, that case the suspicous mind turns to a smile immediately.

On the Street. Beretman, Lapinlahden Lähde, Helsinki

Still cold spring wibes. I saw this gentleman in Lapinlahden Lähde walking in his thoughts. I liked the color combo, blue with the grey in hair, moustaches and scarf. And the red to give a little accent. Some poetry vibe added with the beret. It is not too commonly seen headpiece in men's heads in Finland.

On the Street. Walking the Dog, Lauttasaari, Helsinki

Walking the dog, street style Helsinki.

A bit of a delay in posting street style first time this year. But, after winter all snow has gone and there is more light. Maybe that is why I noticed this couple human / best dog friend walking past my window. Spring is right here. A bit cold, but anyway.

Seasons. Reflection from 2020.

Hello blog. Are You still here? It has been a while since we last met. But there is a reason. You know the pandemic Covid19? That is the root problem of the lack of posts around here last year. My moves have been very limited. Daily walk from home to studio and once a week to the grocery store. One would be very lucky to see any relevant street style on these short moments. I simply have not seen anything worth a drawing. No street style around.

But I have drawn other stuff. Like taking part in a nature history drawing course and taking part of Inktober on Instagram last October. Those were fun, but they are not street style. Therefore I have not much to bring to this table. And to be true my head rolls more and more around patterns, my true love. My handle in IG is @sanna_pyykko, if you’d like to look through the other drawing stuff.

The image of this post is one of the inktober posts. It tells a story of the fashion in the 80’s. The afro hairdo was very fashionable that time and it looked like this in Finland. One of the kind electric shock style. I had a cousin that was six years older than me. I admired her haido that looked exactly like this. But, to Finnish slippery hair quality it really needed a strong permanent to get this coiffure.

This year is the tenth since I started this blog in 2011. If the world stays as it is now, the anniversary will not be very bold. Let's see how it goes.

As the New Year begins, I wish You All Good. Stay healthy and remember to be your own star.

On the Street. Classic Trench Coat With Attitude, Helsinki

There has been very little any interesting street styles around lately. Or there may be, but I don’t personally move around very much due to pandemic Covid. Something anyway. Here we go.

I don’t remember where or when I saw this woman, but the feeling was, that this trench coat has been with her since 80’s. Thinking about the classic cut and thick material that lasts time. Accompanied with black polo shirt, the grey braid on the neck and giant yellow sunglasses from the same era as the coat.

This is a good example of two things. 1. When you buy quality, it may last your lifetime. –> very sustainable from the viewpoint of globe. 2. When you lean your style on classics like ageless trench coat, you make decision of style, not fashion. And style is the one, that lasts time.

My Style. Living With Plants.

Living with plants, blue outfit

It has been a while that I have been posting hear any new stuff. What to blame? Well, there is few facts that has been going lately. Number one is COVID19. I don’t see anything interesting on the streets because I don’t move around as much as before. Number two is plants. The moment that Spring arrives starts the hustle with plants.

When I come Home or Office the first thing is to hang around plants. There is always someone who needs a little water, a little shower, some pest control, or, is growing new leave, new flower or new baby plant by the side. In the spring all of this is accentuated as the amount of light increases. Immediately the plants respond to it. With some 100 plants there is always something to do. And I love it!

This aspargus has come to me as tiny little plant from my mother-in-law, who didn’t cope with it. I like how it is like a green cloud. In the spring, it grows long new offshoots that I wrap around the rest of the plant. It gets bigger every year.

If I can’t go to the woods, I still have the variety of calming green around. Especially in wintertime a lot of plants is a precious source of energy.

Have you ever thought what would be the only colour if you could have only one? As you can see in this image, Me and My blue. What about you?

I don’t know when there will be next post. I’m off to summer holiday. Domestic tourism on countryside is on target in the age of coronavirus. Have a nice summertime!

On the Street. Man in Boots, Lauttasaari, Helsinki

Street Style Helsinki. Man in Boots.

Time to post this man in boots, carrying heavy plastic bags. Classic outfit toasted with moustaches from 80's.

Many may wonder, why doesn’t he have facemask in these days of coronavirus covid-19. In Finland the authorities have not made any rules that everybody should wear a mask. Therefor it is more rare than usual around here.

The Spring is coming warmer day to day. But it may be, that this gentleman keeps his boots and leather jacket on whatever the weather is. I wonder what is he carrying. Maybe the groceries to his old mama, who is quarantined to home for the sake of covid-19.

On the Street. Messenger of Spring, Lauttasaari, Helsinki

Street Style Helsinki. Messenger of Spring.

One of these mornings I noticed some 300 meters away a bright green spot coming closer in every step. The days had been grey and therefor a green spot like that woke me up from my inner thoughts. I went on curiously waiting what will it be while walking ahead. And then eventually I passed this green spirit. Like a messenger from Spring itself, convincing that Oh Yes, the Spring is just around the corner.

On the Street. Moustache Man, Kamppi Helsinki.

Street Style Helsinki. Moustache Man with Fisherman's Beanie.

It’s not quite Spring yet. One can still feel happy to wear a decent protective woolen jacket. In this case gray like… moustaches. Moustaches has made a comeback.  I hope that same time Movember-movement hasn’t experienced inflation. While every other guy is having moustaches anyway. Then there is nothing special in growing moustaches for a month.

A few trend notes from Helsinki this winter, that are featured in this guy’s style too.
1. Fisherman’s beanie has been super popular lately.
2. I haven’t seen as many Dr. Martens boots since 90’s, as I have seen this winter.
3. Big round eyeglasses.

Few years back there were moustache prints everywhere. Remember? Now the flamingos and rainbows has taken the place as trendy images.

On the Street. Never Ending November, Lauttasaari, Helsinki

Street Style Helsinki. Protecting against rain.

This year in Helsinki the winter has not been the same as it used to be. No frost, no snow. Mostly only grey days, rain and wind.

I have seen this character on my home street regularly walking head down, hood on the head, no face to see, dressed in totally black protective equipment to fight against the somewhat hostile weather type. Slowly walking to the seashore and back.

I admit. The feeling is like never ending November has hit this corner of the world, Helsinki. Is this the future along with the climate change? Just thinking…

On the Street. Beanieboy in Metro, Helsinki.

Street style Helsinki. Boy in a metro.

I traveled in a metro and opposite to me stood this guy leaning to a handrail. There was something, maybe the simplicity of his style, that triggered this drawing. Maybe the personal touch in his style was the wide bootcut jeans, while many men goes in slim jeans. The unusual little thing.

On the Street. Lady My, Lauttasaari Helsinki.

Street Style Helsinki. Lady My, Lauttasaari.

December has been the darkest month in a year in Helsinki. There is no snow at all and the shortest period of daylight, just six hours a day. And with cloudy sky it can be miserable.

Therefor, when I saw this lady walking towards me in her colorful coat and pink hair bun, at once I needed to tell her: ”Oh Mrs, your outfit is so marvellous!”. Unlike I assumed, she didn’t look happy at all. Instead she passed me rapidly mumbling to her male companion: ”…you are wrong, I’m no Mrs…”

Well, in this business one can go wrong. But then again, the muttering completed this person to Lady My, grown up version of Tove Jansson’s Little My. She is always somewhat angry or pissed at one thing or two.

This image may be a symbol of the ending decade. It has good reason to be a little angry. Eternal farewell, you know. There it walks to the left and gives space to new one. Happy New Year! Let the new decade bring good adventures for you.

On the Street. The Return of Chunky Beanie, Metro Helsinki

Street Style Helsinki. The return of chunky beanie.

It’s beanie time again here in Finland. November coldness writes the rule. I saw this girl while waiting for metro. First thought was like, how in earth anyone combines brown rustic plaid jacket with turquoise light blue delicate checkered pleated skirt.

But when I had the two minutes (metro waiting time) to stare and consider the style again, I found a rule. This is kind of Jin and Yang -play. Encountering opposites.

Pale winter pastels; light blue skirt, pink chunky beanie and scarf plus mint-coloured backpack, against brown tones. And the materials delicate combined with the rustic. Not bad at all.

And note, the chunky beanie is here to stay, already third winter in a row. Just look at these blogposts:

On the Street. Real Life Manga, Metro Helsinki

Street Style Helsinki, Real Life Manga

Two friends dressed in long black wool coats. It starts to be that time of the year. The season of black outfits. Many people rely on black, when the cold season crawls out from the spot it has been hiding during sunny season.

This sight turned my head and this pale girl was nailed to my mind. Some tone of manga characters, big clumsy boots and sheer white shirt with a scarf that is more like rope. The scarf turned many times round the neck. No makeup. This sight includes symbolism to November that starts in two days.

On the Street. October Like Grey Flannel, Helsinki

Street Style Helsinki.

October, the month of Inktober. Let’s participate, at least this first day.

I saw this guy in Habitare fair last year. Just found this illustration under a pile of papers. Habitare is the yearly organized interior, design and furniture fair in Helsinki. Good place to see somebody to draw after.

In October we dive in to the grey, rain and puddles. This blonde fellow was dressed in the tones of black, grey wool flannel trousers, white shirt and black v-neck knit. Fits to the mood. Classic and cosy. To be in style, we can always trust in classics.
